Dr. Rebecca Valdes
School Principal

Dear Navigator Families,

My name is Dr. Rebecca Valdes and I have the great honor of being Navigator Academy of Leadership’s inaugural principal! I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and recently moved to Brandon, Florida with my family. I am a military wife and mother of two beautiful children and enjoy being actively involved in my community. I am tremendously excited about this new chapter in my journey and am eager to meet the Navigator Academy families.

I had always dreamt of being an educator and I worked hard at reaching my goal. I graduated from Florida International University in Miami, Florida in December 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and graduated in December 2004 with a Master’s Degree in Reading Education K-12. In addition to my subject area certifications, I am ESOL and Gifted Endorsed and possess my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership. I had the honor of being a teacher for eight amazing years before I was asked to step out of the classroom for more administrative duties related to curriculum and daily school operations. It was bittersweet for me to step away from the classroom since the connection with the students had always been my passion. Fortunately, I quickly realized that by stepping out, I had the opportunity to have more of a school-wide impact on the students, teachers, parents, and community.

In 2013 I became the principal for a very large elementary school in Homestead, Florida and had the great honor of being fundamental in the community. Together, the faculty, staff, and I supported the belief that education was more than what students could learn from a book. We nurtured a safe environment where all students could learn from their experiences and from their active engagement in their education. Furthermore, we focused on the whole child by tapping into their mental capabilities, physical abilities, and extracurricular interests.

I am a firm believer that all students can learn. I don’t believe that all students can learn in the same way which is why it is important to make sure our students are actively engaged and truly experiencing their education. It is also not a belief of mine to teach to the test. I do believe in teaching them strategies that will assist them on their journey for lifelong learning. We can’t teach the future of our world how to pass a test, we need to equip them with the strategies they will need in order to continue learning throughout their life.

Here at Navigator Academy of Leadership, we offer a unique opportunity for students to develop the skills that are needed in order to achieve greatness! We will provide students with the educational platform needed to develop well-rounded individuals who will serve as our future leaders, inventors, and entrepreneurs. There are no words to describe my excitement and eagerness to get the school year started. I hope to meet many Navigator families throughout the summer during our parent night and registration events! I am looking forward to our school building being ready in the very near future. The facility is amazing and will assist us in making sure we are taking our students to new heights. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I would like to be the first to welcome you to Navigator Academy of Leadership.

Thank You,
Rebecca Valdes, Ed.D.
